Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss is a special knife. For who didn’t know: it’s a large, short, sharp, full tang and very powerful knife. I am surprised with its ability. This is definitely one of the best pocket survival knife!

The Big Boss fixed blade is a Mike Snody designed knife from KA-BAR. It is made in the USA from premium S35VN steelMike Snody is the master when it comes to designing small but functional fixed blades. And by small I mean full size, not neck knives. His designs, coupled with KA-BAR’s ability to produce a great knife at a great price in the USA, makes for one fantastic line... plus it's got S35VN SteelKabar Snody 510 Big Boss
I knew nothing about S35VN “super steel” until I witness by my eyes its ability. In a weekend days in August 2014, we went fishingkabar snody 510 big boss review in countryside near Sai Gon, Vietnam. I carried my favorite Kabar D2 Extreme Fighting Knife, which you can see its review here, and one of my friend carried this Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss. I asked him “Hey Jack, no kidding? That’s a short blade! What can we do with it?” “Let I show you” he replied.
Jack found a big long log about 59” length and 7.9” diameter. It was a dried log which look so hard. I thought that big log can be a challenge with any survival knives. Jack grasped his Kabar Big Boss in left hand and hold a heavy stick in right hand. He started to BATON Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss Knife to vertically chop the big log!
I though “Oh sh.t! That's suck!” I didn’t think that small piece of steel can survive through that hashed test. About 10 minutes later Jack finished and showed me results: the big log was vertically chopped into two small pieces and Kabar Big Boss 510 was intact!
Yes, the blade was intact! There were no sign of “chips” on the edge. Nothing at all. And the back of blade was, too. Look like be BATONED by a 8 pounds stick was not a big problem with it!
In that day we asked Jack to push his knife to its limit. Kabar Big Boss help him to make fire logs, built a tent for camping, and at the end of the day, it was sharp enough to cut a paper. TERRIFIC! I was such impressive that decided to buy one for myself 3 days later!
I saw there were some negative reviews about this knife. I just don’t care about it. Who have to care after I witnessed its’ live show? I think this is a perfect pocket – survival knife. Something you can carry along in urban for situations. And if you’re lucky enough, you can get lost somewhere in the wild with this tool. Surely it can help you much in both environment. You’re going to be happy with it.
I love the blade. It is well designed, and the S35VN Stainless Steel that it is made of is the newest "super steel" for custom knife blades. The blade finish is neither polished or bead blasted so it won't fit the bill for either a show piece or a military combat role either.

kabar snody 510 big boss review
The Kabar Big Boss 510 blade is S35VN – super stainless steel – and it came razor sharp. I paid more than $200 that time to get it on Amazon, and I feel it was very cheap. With its’ price today, I feel it is a bargain for this knife alone given the S35VN steel.
The tang extends past the FRN scales to reveal a lanyard hole. Comes with interchangeable blue "Reptile" and purple "Dolla Holla" scales. The Boss includes a semi-custom JRE leather sheath. The plastic scales are no match for Micarta or G10 but they fit nice and feel good in hand. I have to say I don’t like the “scales”. It’s look cheap and funny with my “Big Boss”I will end up making a set of Micarta scales for it and get a keyed sheath for wet weather. If Kabar had gone with a Micarta or G10 scales, this would be one of the coolest production knives out there.
Also included with the Big Boss knife are 8' of coordinated 550 cord and an 8" precut lanyard to affix the Schmuckatelli custom-designed pewter bead with the Snody "S" logo. Create a one-of-a-kind look with these coordinating elements.
Let’s see what Kabar said about their product:
------------------------------------------------------

KA-BAR is proud to offer Snody Knives designed by custom knife maker, Mike Snody. Mike prides himself on producing world-class, investment grade cutlery for the most extreme, discerning and demanding knife collectors and users on the planet. The Snody Boss and Big Boss knives are sold with high-grade, heavy-weight, semi-production JRE leather sheaths made in the US and featuring grommet holes for lashing in any carry configuration. The Snake Charmer neck knife comes with a hard plastic self-locking sheath.
All Snody Knives come with 8 feet of 550 paracord and an 8" pre-cut lanyard to affix the included custom designed pewter bead. This bead is made in the US by Schmuckatelli and features the stylized Snody "S" logo. Also comes with a bonus set of deep purple handles. The Boss and Big Boss models come mounted with the blue "Reptile" handles and include an extra set of interchangeable purple "Dolla Holla" handles.
------------------------------------------------------

Ok I don’t want to say about that suck scale anymore. Blue and Purple are funny for survivalists. About the sheath, it is a well made ambidextrous leather piece. It is intended to lash to something else and doesn't have provisions to attach it to a belt. It also doesn't have any way to secure the  knife when it is inserted into the sheath. I actually like the sheath as it is well crafted with high quality leather and fits the knife really well. Despite it does not have a belt loop, it has holes for the paracord that is included so you can modify it how you want. And one more point, I found the leather sheath is an awesomes “refine stone”. It worked really well with my other knives after re sharpend. I have not to re-sharpen my Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss a single time since the day I got it, despite I’m a knives terminator.
CONLUSION:
I especially love drop point, large blade and form of Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss. I love the way it feel in my hand. It’s almost indestructible. It can be your best secondary knife in the wild. I will buy this knife again if I have to! You should get it!
This knife is ergonomically pleasing, looks great and is well balanced. It is well designed with a high quality steel and I know it will serve me well for many years. That said, I have no regrets with this purchase and really like the general design of this knife.
Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss is a perfect urban survival knife. It's also an ideal secondary weapon for close combat. If I was alone in the wilderness for a week with this knife, it's will be OKAY! Try Kabar Snody 510 Big Boss by yourself today. You must experienced its by your own hand. This is my recommend.
